In her recent speech on Brexit, the Prime Minister promised to control the number of people coming to the UK from Europe whilst still attracting the brightest and best to work or study here. That sounds promising for international talent. But it is not clear at this stage how this will be achieved.  Theresa May did not give us any clues as to whether this would work within the current Points Based System sponsorship licence process, involve a complete overhaul of the current immigration system or perhaps require the reintroduction of the old work permit Worker Registration Scheme process for European nationals. She also promised certainty and clarity and the assurance that the rights of EU citizens already in Britain will be guaranteed - if the EU likewise protects the rights of Britons in EU states; and that our EU-derived laws will continue to apply to workers' rights after we actually leave the EU. This should provide some welcome certainty for businesses, in the short term at least...
