I am increasingly being asked to prepare and certify documentation relating to changes of name. A key issue appears to be the different naming conventions which apply in different countries for passport and other ID documentation. So whereas in country A my client may be referred to as John Joe Smith in his passport, in his ID documents in country B he may be referred to as John Smith or Joe John Smith. This can cause problems where documents need to be signed by the individual - for example, by which name should my client be referred to in the document? If the wrong name is inserted, the document may be rejected by the recipient so it is important to get this right.
It is possible to prepare documentation that can help get around this tricky issue and if you have any questions or would like to discuss your own position then do get in touch.
